SERVES: 4 PERSONS
INGREDIENTS:
1/2 cup Lentils split (masoor dal)
750 gm Mutton (1 inch pieces)
1 large sized Onion (finely chopped)
2 Green chillies (slit)
2 tsp Cumin powder
1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
1½ inch piece Ginger (finely chopped)
2 tbsp Oil
1 tsp Cumin seeds
6 cloves Garlic (finely chopped)
1½ tsp Red chilli powder
2 tbsp Lemon juice
Salt to taste
1/2 tsp Sugar
1/2 tsp Garam masala powder
3 tbsp Fresh coriander leaves (chopped)
METHOD:
Take four cups of water in a thick-bottomed vessel and add dal, onion, green
chillies, cumin powder, turmeric powder, half the chopped ginger and mutton. Put
on high heat and bring to a boil. Lower the heat, cover and cook till both the
meat and dal are well cooked and tender. Heat oil in a frying pan and add cumin
seeds. When they splutter add the remaining chopped ginger and garlic. Fry till
lightly browned. Add red chilli powder and take off the heat immediately. Add to
the cooked meat-dal mixture. Add lemon juice, salt, sugar and garam masala. Stir
and simmer on low heat for ten minutes. Serve hot garnished with chopped
coriander leaves.
