Tamarind paste:

A very good skin conditioner. Tamarind paste can be prepared by soaking tamarind root for some time and then grating and grinding it either in a mortar or a mixer. Mix it with a little gram flour and apply on your face, hands and other parts of your body. Your skin will have a golden glow after you wash this off after 10 minutes.

Shikakai & Rithha:

Shikakai is a root and Riththa is a fruit. Both these foods of nature are very good conditioners for your hair. Soak them overnight. Just before you wash your hair, crush them in the soaked water with your hand. If lather starts forming, you know its soaked right. Apply the soaked water to your hair, make a lather, and rinse with water. Apply once again and rinse. When you hair dries, you will see it shine as it never has before.

Curd & Gram flour:

This combination is again good for your skin. A facial with this mixture will remove blemishes and make your skin soft and smooth. If you have oily skin, use curd made out of non-fat milk.


Henna leaves are used both for conditioning and colouring your hair. You get this either in leaf or powder form. If you get it in the leaf form, freshly picked, you will have to soak them, grind them into paste before you apply it to your hair. Keep it on for half an hour and then wash it off. You hair will have a glorious shiny mahogany hue.


Since eggs have protein and fat they are good food for your hair. The white of the egg is also good for your skin. When applying to hair, use rithha after egg treatment, to remove smell.

Honey :

Honey has lot of uses. It is one of the key ingredients of many Ayurvedic treatments. A drink made out of lemon juice and honey in warm water, taken first thing in the morning helps you lose weight.
